IV. Public Comments - Keith Turrill, candidate for school board. City needs to trim tree at West and Summer Street. Sign is hidden. Coen said that he would bring to the city. No call ins for him. Greater Burlington sponsored state of the economy lunch. Great attendance. Good discussion. He referenced Pew Center research (no idea about this). He attended hopes and dreams meeting at a pizza place. Something about highway 61 corridor. Cory and he did digital conference with DE to get ready for siite visit in October. He talked about an article he gave the board that said there is no clear way to stop violence. He viisited AEA to observe training. He attended training at ES and BHS. JIm Olson of Great Western Bank gave money for construction trades. Cory, Bross, and he attended a meeting about work something project. He assked Greg if students could do apprenticeships and if school’s insurance covers them. It does if they don’t get paid. If paid, the company pays for it. There are 1400 unfilled positions in the Burlington area. He is waiting on a callback from Iowa Bar Association on transition plans for juveniles coming out of juvenile detention facilities and transitioning students back into schools. No clear way to stop gun violence article was brought back up by Courtny. Courtney talked about the article being highlighted and wanted to know who did it. He didn’t like that it highlighted that school shootings are rare. He said it had happened 19 times in the past 9 months. It’s not rare. Bolander is attending anti-violence meeting tonight in lieu of Coen. Bross said that the last two years the the ISBA agree with the article ( he was counteringCourtney’s argument). Bross said we need to be careful not promoting stuff the data doesn’t support. Courtney said it is not infrequent. Bross quoted Mark Twain - “Figures never lie, but liars figure”. Vickstrom asked about safety town. Coen said attendance has decreased. Anti violence meeting is at the Loft tonight.

5. Grayhounds Spirit Pump - BP will have a gas pump that for every gallon of fuel sold the district gets a penny. Brueck moved, Vickstrom seconded. Bross said the color is not the right color. Cory said it was a mock up that wasn’t finalized. No idea on how long this will run. Passed.

X. Board Communications
Vickstrom - I’ve been gone. Leave me alone.
Brueck - Won’t be running for school board. New position. Wish all candidates luck.
Courtney - nothing
Hatteberg - Jimmy Johns made a huge donation of food to district. Ragbrai participants donated to food pantry. Remind all that communication is huge. If we don’t hear from you we can’t do anything about a problem or challenge.
Kendell - Thanks Great Western Bank support. We’ve had a few issues the past few weeks. Appreciate responses and communication of district. Nice job. A few transportation hiccups the past few weeks but no one was hurt. Visited ES and BHS. Very impressed at ES. Things are going very smoothly. Great communication. Found BHS going very smoothly. Few kids in the hallway. No disturbances or problems at BHS. Happy with what he saw.
Bross - Good reports about homecoming. Great time. Great slate of candidates for school board. Good we have interest. Become educated about issues.
Courtney - Seatbelts in busses for next year?
Coen - $8000 per bus.
Courtney - Are we going to look at procedures with this?
Coen - It will result in slower transportation at the beginning. May result with associates on the bus at the beginning.
Courtney - concerned about busses rolling into the water and kids needing help.
Coen said kids would die if this happened.
Bross - just new busses?
Coen - yes not old busses. We can phase them in.
